Well, friends, I have good good news: the bank approved and we got the house! We are now home owners! It's kind of unbelievable, and a looong time coming. We're now getting the house ready to move in.
It's a little-bitty house, around 1000 square feet, and old too, built in 1951. It needs a lot of renovations: the floors have to be replaced, the kitchen counters re-done, and the backyard needs to be re-turfed ... among other things! And of course, right now we have very little money to do it all so we're only doing what we can, putting in new floors and painting all the rooms. But it's worth it. I'm obsessed with Midcentury modern furniture and retro style, so to me it's perfect. We're going to furnish it with all our thrift store finds and furniture, hopefully restoring it to its '50s beauty. We love our little retro home!
In the meantime, we celebrated Fourth of July (Independence Day in the U.S.A), by going to a nice little get-together with old family friends. We all dressed in red, white and blue! Which is what I try to do every year for the Fourth. Even the baby had a red, white and blue outfit. ^_^
I got the dress (above) last winter, since I thought it would be perfect for the occasion, and I loved its retro '80s vibe. It was from Asos.com, one of my favorite sites ever. It was cool and comfortable in the heat, and we had a great time at the party!

Hope all you folks in the U.S.A. had a fun and safe Fourth of July!

Big congrats!! Our townhouse is about 930 square feet and on three floors, so I know about small houses. But we love small houses and I'm not sure I'd ever want more than about 1200 sf even in my dream house.
We are crazy for mid century modern as well. We love to go to Palm Springs and tour all the furniture stores there...
This dress is adorable on you and looks to be perfect for the heat.
Thank you J!
You are so lucky to get to go to Palm Springs to see the furniture places there -- I've always wanted to do that! Hopefully someday. In the meantime, the thrift stores here have good MCM things once in a while, but they're getting harder to come by. I think it's because that style has become so popular, but I've collected MCM stuff since college in the '90s.
