TRIBAL-GLOBAL: GOODIES FROM TARGET!

I'm absolutely thrilled about the different "tribal" and "cultural" designs that are so in vogue these days! Mainly because I'm from another country, myself, and also a fan of retro '60s-'70s styles, which remind me of my childhood in Sri Lanka and the vibrant-patterned clothes that the adults around me wore.

I think a great way to incorporate these styles into your wardrobe is with accessories. One of the best things about these global designs is how they can transform even the simplest t-shirt and denim outfit into something interesting and cool! This makes them perfect for travel: accessories take up much less room in your suitcase, and when worn in different locales they can really make you feel like you're part of the international travel culture, no matter where you might find yourself -- London, Lagos, or Los Angeles! ^__^

As much as I adore these looks, however, they can cost quite a bit, and I can't afford to shell out $100 or even $50 for a belt or scarf, no matter how unique or cool.

So, I frequently find myself wandering off to our local Target, where you can get fantastic tribal-global patterned accessories at very affordable prices. Here are a few of my own finds, which I got over these last few months. The quality is comparable to much more expensive pieces advertised in fashion magazines, but they're all under $25, and most are under $15!!



First, this wonderful Mossimo Supply Co. belt! It's all-leather and looks a lot more expensive than it is. Here's a detail of its intricate design:



I like to wear it with a simple colored tee and a bohemian skirt ... I think it looks really special and polished, that way!

From Merona, these leaf-shaped leather and metal earrings, which I don't own but found to be really unique and striking:


You have to see these in person to realize just how lovely they are. The design is delicate yet textured, very much like a piece you'd find at Free People, but at a fraction of the cost ... literally!

Also from Mossimo, this wonderful cotton scarf:



I wear it with my moss green t-shirt and jeans, and it's fabulous with that outfit! The blues in the pattern go perfectly with blue denim.

Next, there's this pretty wooden, beaded Xhilaration bangle:


It looks a lot like similar beaded bangles I've seen advertised in the past couple of issues of Lucky magazine, at much higher prices (often over $100). This one is just as cute, but only costs $12!

Today, I picked up this fantastic Mossimo belt:



It's woven in a variety of intricate-colored threads, and looks like something from Lucky Brand, only a lot cheaper! Another great belt to pair with jeans or cotton pants.

Last but not least, this adorable wristlet bag from Hayden-Harnett:

I have been eyeing and coveting this little number forever, and it finally went on sale for $13 so I pounced on it! It's surprisingly roomy and the stud-details are not overdone at all ... they actually make it look quite elegant. It's kind of funny, but I just discovered that the one color handbag I don't have is black ... can you believe that?! ^__^ This was a perfect way to get something I really needed, and it goes with pretty much all of my clothes.

So, there you have it: you don't need to go far or spend a lot to get a stylishly carefree, bohemian, global look! Happy traveling!
